ELLENBURG CENTER €" Vernon H. "Mr. C" Cashman, 86, of Ellenburg Center, died Friday, April 27, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Ellenburg Center on Oct. 5, 1920, the son of Herbert H. and Hazel (Hinds) Cashman.

He was a farmer and also a construction worker at projects, including the missile sites, the St. Lawrence Seaway and Interstate 87. He later was employed at the carpenter shop at Plattsburgh State and retired in 1982 after 23 years of service. He was also in partnership with his son Wayne at Cashman Construction.

He was founder of 63 Hunting Club and a member of the Ellenburg Center Fire Department and served as fire commissioner and fire chief. He was a former member of the Mount Hermon Lodge F & A. M. He enjoyed hunting, golf and wood working.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Melba (Coolidge) Cashman; three children and their spouses, Craig and Martha Cashman of Morrisonville, Wayne and Ann Marie Cashman of Ellenburg Center, Tony and Sheila Deyo of Oceanside, Calif.; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lorraine Cashman of Peru; a sister, Carol Goss of Ellenburg Center; his grandchildren, Brian Cashman, Sara and Chris Brooks, Liza Deyo and Todd Deyo; a great-granddaughter, Emily Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; and a brother, Elden Cashman, died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Ellenburg Depot. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Ellenburg Center United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church or Ellenburg Center Fire Department.
