PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Thunderbirds closed their 2019 regular season with a 5-3 loss to the New Hampshire Wild Sunday at Chip Cummings Field.
The Thunderbirds, though, finished with a 21-12 record to earn the top seed in the Empire Professional Baseball League postseason.
They will host the fourth-seeded Road City Explorers (20-14), who have won eight straight, in a single-elimination game at 4 p.m. at Chip Cummings Field.
The Wild (21-13) will face the Puerto Rico Islanders (20-14) at 11:30 a.m. at the same venue.
The winners will meet in a best-of-three championship series.
New Hampshire overcame a 2-0 deficit with four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
Robbie Kellerman and Tommy Shimchak led Plattsburgh with two hits apiece, while Dalys Binder and Hiroki Itakura doubled.
Drake Sykes suffered the pitching loss, allowing eight hits and five unearned runs over seven innings.
