CYH hosting U19 Tier II championships

CHAZY – Chazy Youth Hockey will host the girls U19 Tier II state championships this weekend at Scotts’ Rink.

The tournament features the top eight teams in the state, including the Lady Flyers who won the North Section tournament Feb. 22-24 in Norfolk.

Games will be played from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. this Friday and from 7 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. on Saturday.

The semi-finals will be held at 10 a.m. and noon on Sunday with the final at 6 p.m.

The Chazy Lady Flyers will play Cazenovia at 7:30 p.m. Friday; Skaneateles at 10:40 a.m. and the Long Island Lady Islanders at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The winner of the tournament advances to the USA Hockey Tier II National Championships in San Jose, Calif. April 3 to 7.

Chazy is the defending state U19 champion.

Admittance this weekend is free.

Plattsburgh R&G Club open Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club’s indoor rifle and pistol range will be open to members and nonmembers Saturday from 2-4 p.m.

The club has equipment and rifles for loan, and will provide instruction.

Myers honored

at SUNY Canton

CANTON — Former Saranac standout Kaitlin Myers, now a senior on the SUNY Canton women’s basketball team, has been named an honorable mention All-American by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

Myers was also named to the All-Academic Team, which goes to sophomores, juniors or seniors that earn a 3.5 or higher grade-point average.

This season Myers averaged a double-double with a team-leading 13.2 points and 11.4 rebounds. She also led the Kangaroos in blocks (53), free-throw shooting (.778), minutes played (33.5) and double-doubles (8).

In her final game, playing against the University of Maine at Fort Kent, Myers hit for a triple-double with 18 points, 24 rebounds and 13 blocked shots.

‘About Boating Safely’ course offered

PLATTSBURGH — Lake Champlain boaters are being offered a boating safety class April 2 and 4 at the South Plattsburgh Fire Department.

The course, which is called ‘About Boating Safely’, is offered by the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 15-8 of Plattsburgh. Class times are from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

Taking an ‘About Boating Safely’ classroom course or one of the online boat safety courses adopted by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will satisfy New York state requirements for mandatory boater education.

‘About Boating Safely’ includes a wide variety of information, including general information about boats and maintenance; information on preparing for safe and enjoyable outings; navigation rules and aids to navigation; guidelines for operating your boat or PWC safely; what to do in case of boating emergencies; and regulations you must follow for New York and Vermont waters.

In general, this information applies to all recreational watercraft, powerboats, PWCs or jet skis, sailboats, rowboats and kayaks.

This course satisfies the requirements for PWC operation and has been approved by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA).
