Lakers' programs begin this weekend

PLATTSBURGH — The Lake Champlain Lakers AAU Basketball Program will begin this weekend at OLVA and Peru Primary gyms. The program will begin with camp sessions by age group as follows:

Saturday, girls 15-16, noon-2 p.m., at OLVA; girls 12 and under, 2-4 p.m., at OLVA; and boys 13-15, 5-7 p.m., at Peru Primary. Sunday, Sunday, girls 15-16, noon-2 p.m., at OLVA; girls 13-14, 2-4 p.m., at OLVA; girls 12 and under, 4-6 p.m., at OLVA; boys 12 and under, 6-8 p.m., at OLVA; and boys 16-17, 4:40-6:30 p.m., at Peru Primary.

The Lakers will accept walk-in registrations at the beginning of each camp session. If anyone has questions regarding the program, they should go to www.lclakers.org or contact Larry Converse, at 569-7431.

Mat Cat wrestling tourney Saturday

ELLENBURG — The Annual Mat Cat Wrestling tournament will be held Saturday at the Northern Adirondack Middle/High School in Ellenburg. Weigh-ins will be from 8- 9 a.m. with wrestling to begin when wall charts are posted.

Entry fee is $10 per wrestler. Trophies will be awarded for first through fourth places. Age groups are as follows: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-17. There will be no double entries.

Malone Youth bowling Challenge this weekend

MALONE — Lucky Strike Lanes will host the North Country Youth Scratch Challenge this weekend with squad time Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday, at noon. It is open to all USBC Youth Bowlers.

Entry fee is $40 with first place earning a $500 scholarship, based on 50 entries. Bowlers can qualify on either date or bowl both squads.

The format will consist of five games qualifying. Based on 50 entries, the top 16 bowlers will advance. All bowlers who advance are guaranteed a scholarship.

Early Bird dart tourney Saturday

PERU — The Early Bird Bud Light dart tournament will be held Saturday at Murphy's Tavern. Registration will be from noon-1 p.m. with play starting at 1:30 p.m. It will be a draw-your-partner format.

Soccer United meeting Sunday

PLATTSBURGH — Soccer United will hold final registration and a meeting Sunday for all girls and boys ages 8-14 at the Crete Center, from 11 a.m.-noon for participants for the outdoor season beginning in mid-April.

There will be U10 and U12 travel teams both boys and girls. All current and new players need to attend. Each player needs to bring a copy of their birth certificate, a passport-size photo, medical information and any other information they feel necessary. Amvets youth league sign-up April 5-6

MALONE — The Malone Amvets Youth Baseball Little League will hold registration for T-ball and Division I (A Division) at the Malone Middle School Cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. on April 5 and 6. T-ball is for ages 4-6, and the Division I age group is 7-9.

Peru YC summer, fall sign-up March 26-27

PERU — The Town of Peru Youth Commission will hold registration for all summer and fall activities Friday, March 26 from 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Registration is open to Town of Peru residents only with activities available for children who have completed kindergarten.

Additional activities are T-ball (ages 5-6) and Mini Mite Soccer (ages 4-5). Employment opportunities are also available for Peru Youth ages 14 and older. Applications will be available at this time.

The Youth Commission will also be asking participants to begin the registration process upstairs in order to fill out a brief survey. The youth activities will be changing in 2011 and the Youth Commission is asking for as much information from residents as possible. AuSable wrestlers fare well in tournaments

PERU — The AuSable Valley Pee Wee Club sent 16 wrestlers to the Peru Jon Evans Pee Wee Tournament Saturday with 12 placing.

Devin Owens, Joe LeClair, Austin Dukett and Kyle Bradley all placed first in their weight classes. Dylan Baker, Logan Blaise, Garrett Pray, Mason Dubray and Nathan Doner all came in second. Brady Steady, Ethan Depo and Nick Provost finished fourth. Wrestling but not placing were Victor Delimeister, Dillion Steady, Ryan Doner and Landon Snyder.

Three wrestlers from the club traveled to Queensbury Sunday. Dylan Baker placed 1st, Logan Blaise, third, and Landen Snyder, fourth.
