Little League All-Star tryouts Sunday

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Little League will be hosting All-Star team tryouts this Sunday, June 5 at Penfield Park.

The 9 and 10 year olds will be on the field from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Please check in at 12:15 p.m. The 11 and 12 year olds will tryout from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Devins named to all-academic team

ITHACA — Senior Kyle Devins (AuSable Valley/Peru) has been named to the District I College Division All-Academic Team. Devins was one of 11 recognized on the first team and has advanced to the ballot for academic all-America honors.

Devins, a jumper on the Bombers' men's track & field team, graduated in May. He proved to be one of three Empire 8 athletes named to the District I team.

Devins made his second and third NCAA Championships appearances competing in the indoor and outdoor long jumps this season.

He finished 13th indoor and 17th outdoor at the national meet. Named the Field Athlete of the Meet at both the Empire 8 Indoor and Outdoor Championships, Devins holds a pair of school records. He shares the indoor long jump record with a mark of 7.20 meters set in 2010 and claimed the outdoor record with a 7.43-meter leap this season.

Devins won the conference long jump title indoors and claimed the long and triple crowns outdoors, while also winning the indoor and outdoor NYSCTC long and indoor NYSCTC triple.

NYSEF fundraiser set for June 12

LAKE PLACID — Join in a day of fun, golf, barbecue and prizes for a good cause on Sunday, June 12 at the Annual NYSEF Open golf fundraiser played on the historic Lake Placid Club Mountain Course.

Registration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon the day of, with players teeing off at 12:30 p.m. Barbecue and refreshments will be offered throughout the day as well as provided immediately following the tournament for the awards ceremony and cocktail party.

A free practice round may be played the day prior as well as rooms offered at the Crowne Plaza for $89 per night.

All funds generated by this tournament will benefit winter sports athletes locally and across the state. Registration forms and information can be found on the NYSEF website, at www.NYSEF.org.

Hershey track, field event June 6

SARANAC — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host the 2011 Hershey Track & Field Games for youth at the Saranac High School Track & Field Complex on Monday, June 6 at 5 p.m. with the Saranac High School Track Team.

Boys and girls ages nine to 14 (age determined as of 12/31/11) may enter a maximum of two track and one field event or one track and two field events.

Events are: 50m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, 1600m run, 4x100m relay, standing long jump and softball throw. Events vary per age group.

Registration is free. Event winners can advance to the NYS West Finals to be conducted later this summer. Registration occurs at the track from 4:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Monday.

Each participant must bring a copy of their birth certificate to submit at registration. Spiked track shoes are not allowed.
