Roberts, Hayes hold leads in NCGC Championships
ROUSES POINT — Saturday’s opening round in the North Country Golf Club Championships featured some tight competition.
Mooers’ Cody Roberts has the lead in the Men’s Championship Flight with a 72, followed closely by Hemmingford, Que.’s Jacques Godin with a 73. Dave Ashline is next at 74, while eight-time champion Bart VanLeuvan and Tom Reid are at 75. Eight other golfers in the flight shot between 76 and 79, leaving the competition still wide open.
In the Ladies’ Championship Flight, Caroline Hayes is in the lead with a 75. Kathy Barcomb, a 19-time club champion, follows at 79, while Kathy Ashline is at 81. Both Anne Bouyea and Susan Beaubien each carded an 83.

Moriah modified practice times announced
PORT HENRY — The Moriah girls’ modified soccer team will practice at 8 a.m. Monday morning. The boys’ modified football team will practice at 3 p.m. Monday.
Riverside Lanes seeking teams for fall leagues
AUSABLE FORKS — Riverside Lanes is seeking teams for the following fall leagues: Tuesday Night Women’s four-person needs two teams; Wednesday Morning Women’s four-person needs two teams; Wednesday Night Men’s five-person needs eight teams; Thursday Night Women’s four-person needs three teams; and Friday Mixed four-person needs three teams.
All leagues start on Labor Day week, except the Monday night men. That league is a week later on Sept. 9. All leagues last 32 weeks. Anyone interested in bowling can call 647-9905.
Pepsi-Cola classic league forming at North Bowl
PLATTSBURGH — The Classic League, sponsored by Pepsi-Cola, is now forming at North Bowl Lanes. It is a five-person scratch league, with a team maximum of 1,000. The league begins bowling at 7 p.m. Sept. 9.

Industrial League at North Bowl forming
PLATTSBURGH — The Industrial League at North Bowl Lanes is now forming for the upcoming season. It consists of five-man teams and bowls at 7 p.m. on Thursday nights. A league meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, with the first evening of bowling to follow.

City Wooden Bat League winners announced
PLATTSBURGH — Ian Newhard accounted for two hits and two RBI and Matt Dion two hits and one RBI to lead Champlain Smiles to a 5-2 victory over the New York State Troopers in the City Wooden Bat League.
Scott Weightman paced the Troopers with three hits and a RBI, while Steve Bronson and Joseph Liberty chipped in with two apiece.
Meanwhile, Jeff Burns finished with three hits and two RBI, Joe Tolosky two hits and three RBI, Dave Abernethy three hits, C.J. Worley a double and two RBI and Craig Worley a single in Off the Field Sports/Ameri-Can North’s 11-2 victory over Meron’s.
Scott Beebie and Glenn Pelkey paced Meron’s with two hits apiece and Ken Kesterman added a single.
Plattsburgh State track & field to hold meeting
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State track & field program will hold an informational meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 29 in room 053-D of Hawkins Hall. Any students and student/athletes who are interested in participating on the team can attend this meeting.
