Preseason coaching form reminder

PLATTSBURGH — Coaches for varsity winter sports are reminded to submit a preseason coaching form to the Press-Republican by Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Coaches are asked to fill this form out as soon as possible to assure the Press-Republican sports department can release season previews for various sports in a timely fashion.

Champagne breaks personal record

BUFFALO — University of New Hampshire Senior Meg Champagne (Seton Catholic) closed out her Cross Country Career with a new personal record and her highest finish at the NCAA Division 1 Northeast Region Cross Country Championships held at the University of Buffalo.

The top two teams and the top four individuals at this meet qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championship to be held in Terre Haute, IN.

Due to treacherous course conditions in Buffalo, the NCAA took the extraordinary step to move the cross country races away from Audubon Golf Course and onto a road course.

Champagne finished 33rd out of 266 finishers in 20:22 for the 6K race.

The New Hampshire women finished 11th out of 37 Teams.

Fellow American East runner Hannah Reinhardt of UAlbany was the overall winner in 19:28 with Harvard taking the team title with 92 points.

Youth basketball referee certification

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau Basketball Program is in need of referees for its upcoming 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade programs which run from Jan. 4 through Feb. 22.

As well as, the 7th/8th grade program, which runs from Feb. 29 through March 28.

General knowledge of the rules, playing experience, and experience working with children desired.

The pay is $20 to $22 per game.

Referees will be hired to officiate games at the third through eighth grade level.

Applicants must be 14 years of age or older and must attend one part 1 and one part 2 clinic.

Applicants must bring all of the following:

1. Working papers (if applicant is 17 yrs. of age or under)

2. Social Security Card or Birth Certificate

2. Picture I.D., Driver's License or school report card

3. Must know their Social Security Number

All coordinators and youth coaches are encouraged to recruit potential basketball referees to attend and ask questions regarding rules and learn more about officiating basketball.

Hike up Hurricane Mountain

KEENE — On Sunday, Nov. 24 the Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club will do the Fire Tower Challenge Hike up Hurricane Mountain in Keene and is looking for other who are also interested.

Hurricane is 3694 feet and the 4.4 miles round trip is considered moderate.

Bring micro spikes, lunch and beverage.

Stick-N-Puck canceled, Public Skate Saturday

PLATTSBURGH — Due to a full hockey schedule, there will be no Stick-N-Puck offered this week at AC North.

The Public Skating session will be Saturday, Nov. 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
