Patriots drop Brushton-Moira in sub-regional

POTSDAM — AuSable Valley kept its season rolling Wednesday.

Lilley Keyser finished with a goal and two assists to help power the Patriots to a 3-1 win against Section X's Brushton-Moira in a NYSPHSAA Class C girls soccer sub-regional at Potsdam High School.

"They played extremely unselfish soccer, and they tried to make the right play with the ball every time," said AuSable Valley coach Lindsey Douglas, referencing her team's performance.

"This group knows what they need to do in order to keep improving as individuals and as a team. We are family, and we will keep moving forward as that."

Jenna Stanley and Kate Knapp also recorded goals for the Patriots, and Koree Stillwell totaled four saves in the Patriots' nets.

AuSable Valley advanced to play Section II's Stillwater at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a regional at Beekmantown.

"We will continue to have great practices focusing on making ourselves better every day," Douglas said.

"The biggest key is being confident and continuing to believe in our goals and what we set out to achieve."

Stanley opened scoring for the Patriots with 27:41 left in the first half, and Knapp made it 2-0 just under six minutes before halftime.

Keyser gave AuSable Valley a 3-0 lead at the 26:18 mark of the second half.

Teaghan Phelan cut the Panthers' deficit to 3-1 with 21 minutes to go in regulation.

"Our defense was great," Douglas said. "That was Brushton’s only dangerous opportunity, and she placed the shot perfectly. (Our defense is) always rock solid."
