NCCS girls ready for sub-regional

HERKIMER — The Northeastern Clinton girls soccer team (10-6-2) enters state play today.

The Cougars will take on Section III's Central Valley Academy (19-1-0) at 5 p.m. at Herkimer College in a NYSPHSAA Class B sub-regional.

The Thunder won the their sectional crown with a 3-1 defeat of Westhill.

"They are a very good team," Northeastern Clinton coach Tim Surprenant said. "They are pretty comparable to Beekmantown in terms of how they play.

"It's going to be a good challenge, but we are excited."

Reilly Rich, Jazmyn Gillette and Mikayla Canipe all had one goal in Central Valley's victory over Westhill.

For Northeastern Clinton, its fresh off a 1-0 win in Section VII championship win against Beekmantown.

Elle Prairie scored the lone goal in the game, and Abby Racine had a seven-save shutout.

Marlie Sample has a team-high 20 points thanks to seven goals and six assists for the Cougars.

The winner of today's game will travel to face either Section X's Canton or Section II's Schalmont.
