Kids Night at Airborne

PLATTSBURGH — Saturday night will be all about the kids at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway.

Race car rides and weekly racing action will occur, with post time at 6 p.m.

The 358-Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Super Stocks, Pro Stocks, Strictly Stocks and Novice Sportsman will all be in action.

Kids will have a chance to win movie passes, bowling games and even a bike.

Race car rides will begin at 5:30 p.m. immediately following hot laps.

Admission prices are set at $12 for adults with kids 12 and under free.

Grandstand gates will open at 4 p.m.

Through three events, 152 different drivers have signed into the garage area.

The Sportsman Modified division has seen the strongest numbers thus far followed by the 358-Modifieds.

Three different drivers have collected wins in the headline 358-Modified division.

Defending champion Steve Bernier won on Opening Night, while Luke Whitteker and Lance Willix picked up wins in weeks two and three, respectively.

The Sportsman Modifieds have seen the same parity through three events with three different winners.

Opening Night saw the 2017 Sportsman Modified champion pulling into victory lane followed by Travis Bruno in week two and Lonnie Rivers in week three.

Jim McKiernan has been the hot driver in the Super Stock class, winning all three events.

Josh LaPorte has two wins on the year to lead the Strictly Stock division.

C.D. Beauchamp and Marc Lalonde have Pro Stock victories, while Felix Roy and Lee Barcomb have Novice Sportsman wins.

To get to Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway, take exit 36 off I-87, turn left and head a mile south on Route 22, then turn right onto Broderick Road.

Mariners tryouts

PLATTSBURGH — Clinton County Mariners tryouts will be held on Saturday at Chip Cummings Field.

14U and 17U: 10 a.m. to noon

19U: Noon to 1 p.m.

PBC registration

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Baseball Club will hold registration Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the city base gym.

Players must be a minimum of 12-years-old and maximum of 15 as of May 1, 2019.

Senior league registration will also occur.

Players cannot be 21 as of January 1, 2019.

Players are not required to be at registration.

Locals help set fast time

CORTLAND — The Plattsburgh State women’s track and field team sits in sixth of 41 teams after day one at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Conference Championships hosted by Cortland.

The 4x400-meter relay of junior Elisabeth Plympton (Plattsburgh/Beekmantown Central School), sophomore Janyll Barber (Dannemora/Saranac Central School), junior Taylor Canet (Peru/Peru Central School) and junior Marissa Jones broke their own school record with a time of 3:51.10 and placed second.

Their time ranks them 10th in NCAA Division III.

The old record of 3:52.94 was set on May 4, 2019, at the SUNYAC championship meet.

The Cardinals will wrap up the AARTFC championship at 10 a.m.

Martin’s relay team eighth

CORTLAND — The Plattsburgh State men’s track and field team sits tied for 26th of 41 teams after day one at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Conference Championships hosted by Cortland.

The 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Luke Groves, sophomore Andrew Horan, freshman Tyler Martin (Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake Central School) and senior Brian Fabian finished eighth with a time of 3:24.88.
