Sarbou sends Peru over Moriah, 3-0

PERU — Kelly Sarbou scored twice to lift the Peru girls soccer team to a 3-0 win over Moriah in non-division play Tuesday at the Apple Bowl.

The Indians’ Rylie Lukens added a goal and assist, and Hannah Meyers chipped in two assists.

“(Tuesday) was a nice team win for us moving into conference play,” Peru coach Amie Chase said. “Our defense played a solid game stopping Moriah’s speed up top.”

Bri Brousseau’s 10 saves earned her a shutout, and Samantha Hayes stopped 14 shots for the Vikings.

PLATTSBURGH — Haley Ladue paced the Hornets with one goal and one assist, and Maddy Woodward assisted on two tallies.

Plattsburgh’s Nell Porter, Sophie Burdo and Kiara Maggy also scored.

Mackenzie Lawfer accounted for six saves to preserve the clean sheet, and the Knights’ Kennedy Spriggs countered with nine stops.

Willsboro’s Abby Bruno totaled five saves.

Loran Kavanagh’s hat trick paced the Lumberjacks.

“We had a number of opportunities in the second half to tie the score but couldn’t capitalize,” Willsboro coach Chris Ford said. “We have a small bench, and the girls played hard and did some really good things, particularly in the second half. I have to do a better job making sure they are ready to play from the opening whistle. This one is on me.”

SARANAC — Nikalas Hamel’s goal at 19:32 of the second half helped the Chiefs salvage a draw.

Saranac’s Zashon Abrams opened scoring near the midway point of the first half, and the Blue Bombers responded with two unanswered.

A Chiefs misplay resulted in an own goal, and Lake Placid’s Cooper Grady found the score sheet.

“Both teams had moments where they moved the ball well,” Saranac coach Calvin Hamel said.

“We need to play with more urgency and put together a full 80 minutes of aggressive soccer. Connor Reid played extremely well for Lake Placid.”
