Saranac Lake boys lead Section VII at Federation Championships

WAPPINGER FALLS — Section VII athletes participated in the New York State Cross Country Federation Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls Saturday.

After defending their Class C title at the NYSPHSAA cross country championship meet in Plattsburgh, the Saranac Lake boys were excited to get to participate at the federation meet.

The Red Storm boys finished third overall with a score of 185 points following Mount Academy (172) in second place and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (151) in first.

Sam Lawler from Pittsford Mendon finished in first place for the boys with a time of 15:57.

Peter Fogarty (16:23) led the way for Saranac Lake with a fourth-place finish, and James Catania nabbed a 12th-place finish with a time of 16:38.

The Red Storm's Andrew Fogarty (16:42) rounded out the top three runners from Section VII in 25th place.

Logan Van Buren (17:31) from Moriah/Boquet Valley finished 99th, Saranac Lake's Tucker Jakobe (17:39) came in 113th and Seton Catholic's Jake Glicksman (17:42) took 119th.

The final three Section VII runners were Saranac Lake's Micah McCulley (17:44), Justin Duprey (17:55) and Sam Ash (18:01).

The girl's top finisher was Katelyn Tuohy from North Rockland who clocked in at 17:02, almost a minute before second-place finisher Karrie Baloga (17:59) of Cornwall.

The top Section VII finisher was Saranac's Rachael Woodruff (19:05), who crossed the finish line in 15th place.

Lily Potthast clinched a 49th-place finish for AuSable Valley with a time of 19:54, and Moriah/Boquet Valley's Sophia McKiernan (182) ran the course in 21:55.

“This is a big personal best on this course for Lily,” AuSable Valley coach Sean Ganter said. “This race is a one race, all class championship that included some of the top runners in the nation.”
