MALONE — Logan Recor pitched five strong innings and the offense erupted for 14 runs as the Clinton County Senior Mariners knocked off Malone Post 219, 14-4, in five innings in American Legion baseball Monday.
Recor went the distance, striking out five for the Mariners to pickup the victory.
“Logan was in the strike zone the whole night,” Clinton County assistant coach Craig Worley said.
The Mariners (11-4) took advantage of some early errors by Malone, but also used some strong hitting and aggressive running to jump out early.
“It was a miserable, rainy day and we thought we would try to make them make plays and we were able to come out strong with four runs in the first inning,” Worley said. “And, it continued on after that.”
Chris Roenbeck led the charge for the Mariners with a pair of hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Will Flynn added two hits and three RBI for Clinton County, while Ben Weightman scored four runs.
Brian Latulipe, Kasey Favreau and Recor each delivered a single, while Tommy Curran finished with an RBI double.
Malone Post 219 was paced by Travis Legacy and Brandan Dufrane from the plate, both of which finished with a double.
The Mariners are back on the diamond Wednesday with a game against Essex at Lefty Wilson at 6 p.m. Then they hit the road for the Mansfield University Tournament in Mansfield, Pa.
