PLATTSBURGH -- The defending Champlain Valley Baseball League playoff champion Plattsburgh Cardinals opened the 2007 regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Hockey Plus at Lefty Wilson Field.

The Cardinals won by scores of 5-3 and 7-3.

Tom Neale struck out eight in going five innings for the win in Game 1. Gary Duquette pitched the seventh inning for the save.

Matt Duquette paced the Cardinals with two hits, while Jason Perry and Nate Bilow added doubles.

Craig Bujold tossed a six-hitter and struck out six in going the distance for the loss.

Kyle Rock led Hockey Plus with two hits, including a triple, while Donny LaPorte added a pinch-hit double in the seventh inning.

In Game 2, Nick Walker went the first four innings to get the win.

Perry and Michael Howard paced the Cardinals with two hits each.

Zack Welch and Rock had doubles for Hockey Plus, while losing pitcher Jeff Norton and Matt Kelley had the other hits for Hockey Plus.

TUPPER LAKE -- Billy Davis and Mike Bordeau had big days for C.R. Tunes in its doubleheader sweep of the Adirondack Timberjaxx.

Davis rapped out three hits, including a double and two RBI, in the opener and added three more hits in the second game. Davis also went the distance for the pitching win in Game 1 as he struck out 11, walked one and allowed seven hits.

Bordeau, meanwhile, accounted for three hits and three RBI in Game 1 and followed that up with four hits, including two doubles and six RBI, in the second game.

Steve Hanley added a triple for the Mudhens in the first game, while Matt Rivers and Jason Kaplan rapped out three hits each in Game 2, with Kaplan getting a double and three RBI. David Gordon chipped in with two hits.

Matt Rivers allowed four hits in five innings to get the Game 2 victory.

Diavalo Fletcher and Jim Wallace paced the Timberjaxx in the opener with two hits each, with Wallace getting a double. Jimmy Knight, Jr. fanned 13 and allowed 10 hits in taking the loss.

Diavalo Fletcher added two more hits in the nightcap and J.J. Fletcher chipped in with a triple.

PLATTSBURGH -- The Fourth Ward Athletics, the new entry into the league this season, recorded a win in Game 2 for a split of their twinbill.

In the opener, the A's held a 7-0 lead before Ormsby's/Loreman's rallied. Chris Markwica tied it with a two-run homer in the sixth and the hosts won it on a throwing error in the seventh.

Jacques DeMars led Ormsby's/Loreman's with three hits, while Markwica, who picked up the win, and Nick Brindisi added two apiece.

Mark Kiroy paced the A's with three hits to go along with four RBI.

The Fourth Ward got even in Game 2 as Travis Rasco struck out 10 in going the distance for the pitching win.

Drollette led the A's with three hits, including a home run and three RBI, while Jason Mitchell chipped in with a double and single.

Markwica and DeMars rapped out two hits each in a losing cause, with Markwica getting a double.
