PHS girls hockey opens season with win

BURLINGTON, VT — The Plattsburgh High girls hockey team defeated CVU/MMU of Vermont, 5-2, in a non-conference game Friday.

The Hornets' Reylyn Giroux led in scoring with two goals in the second period.

“Our girls played very strong, and our forwards and defense played great,” Plattsburgh coach Trevor Cameron said. “The defense was very active in the offensive zone.”

McKenzie Brown opened scoring with a goal at the 8:06 mark of the first period, and Giroux put the Hornets ahead, 2-0.

Riley Endeman picked up the first goal for CVU/MMU, and Giroux delivered a short-handed goal at the 9:26 mark to keep the two-goal lead.

“Our defense was great with puck possession,” Cameron said. “They were able to control the pace of play and really generate chances.”

CVU/MMU landed a short-handed goal in the third period, but Plattsburgh's Morgan Reid and Gillian Boule returned fire to score one goal each to cushion the lead for the Hornets.

“This is a good win because it builds our confidence,” Cameron said. “It's a constant learning process, but this is a step in the right direction.”
