PLATTSBURGH -- Plattsburgh High School's bats were quieted by Nick Lamica Friday.

That, however, didn't stop the Hornets from winning the game.

Pat Shaughnessy tossed a four-hitter and Plattsburgh (8-2 in league play) recorded a 2-1 victory over Peru in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play at Plattsburgh State's Chip Cummings Field.

Shaughnessy struck out four and walked five in going the distance, while Lamica allowed just two hits, fanned six and walked six.

Shaughnessy ran into trouble in the first inning when he walked four Indians. A pick-off of a runner at second base, however, helped get him out of the inning without allowing a run.

"Shaughnessy faced six batters in the second inning when he gave up a run, but didn't face more than four in an inning the rest of the way," PHS coach Jim Manchester said. "He was solid in the seventh inning.

"And, Lamica was outstanding -- you can't say enough good about him."

Peru scored a run in the second on a wild pitch and held the lead until the fifth when the Hornets tied it.

With one out, Adam Tobrocke singled for PHS' first hit of the game. He stole second before two walks loaded the bases. Justin Mahan then sent a liner off Lamica's glove for an infield hit and RBI.

PHS then took the lead for good in the sixth when Kenny Stay walked, stole second and came across to score when Gino Blando's infield grounder was thrown away at first base.

"There wasn't much hitting in the game," Manchester said. "We were able to run the bases well."

Tyler Hoey rapped a double for the Indians, while John Mackintosh, Mat Turner and Mark Leta each chipped in with a base hit.
