Peru narrowly edges B'town

PERU — Beekmantown's Nate Sarnow recorded first-place finishes in all events except beam, but Peru narrowly defeated the Eagles 161.5-160.55 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics Tuesday.

Sarnow also finished first all-around with 35 points, beating the Indians' Maddy Witkiewicz (33.35) by 1.65 points.

“Nate Sarnow had wonderful performances with some really great skills,” Peru coach Molly Lawliss said.

Witkiewicz took second place in floor and beam with 9.05 points and 8.8 points, respectively.

Lauren Gonyo captured third all-around for Beekmantown with 32.8 and took second (8.35) in vault and third (7.9) in bars.

“It was a great meet for both teams and really could have gone either way,” Lawliss said.
