Peru holds off Plattsburgh High

PLATTSBURGH — Peru edged Plattsburgh High by 1.5 points for a narrow 158.9-157.4 victory in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference gymnastics Friday.

The Hornets' Morgan Hughes took first place all-around with 32.55 points as well as first in vault (8.02).

Rylee Desso (32.4) and Madeline Witkiewicz (32.05) finished second and third, respectively, for the Indians.

Desso (8.8) tied for first on floor with Hughes and Peru's Jenna Swyers.

Swyers came in first on beam with 8.4 points, and Plattsburgh's Dakota Tender (8.05) finished first on bars.

“Another close meet in Section VII. Plattsburgh High came up short despite having the top all-around gymnast. Plattsburgh won the vault and bars, while Peru won the beam,” Hornets coach Janice Trudeau said. "Floor top finishers represented both schools. Each team came to win and put out great performances.”
