PLATTSBURGH -- It was an encore performance Tuesday in the Section VII tennis team championships for Class A-B.
The Northeastern Clinton boys took care of Plattsburgh High School, 4-1, in a rematch of last year's team finals, won by the Cougars 3-2.
Meanwhile, the Plattsburgh High girls also successfully defended their team title with a 4-1 triumph over Northeastern Clinton. The Hornets defeated the Cougars 4-0 in 2006.
The team championships culminated perfect seasons for both teams, which already won the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference crowns. The NCCS boys capped their season at 10-0 while the PHS girls finished 11-0. CVAC boys' tennis has one less team.
Trevor Batchelder and Anthony Changelo, who both won in singles last season, came up big again Tuesday with straight-set victories.
The big surprise was at No. 3 singles where Dylan Castine rallied to beat Plattsburgh's Robert Lanzer 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Castine lost his match in last year's championship play.
PHS and NCCS split the doubles with Will Harris teaming with John Curle to win at No. 1 for PHS and Nathan Weiss and Tyler Tetreault prevailing at No. 2 for the Cougars. Harris and Weiss both won a year ago with different partners.
The PHS girls swept the singles without dropping a set. Kim Jones, at No. 1, won 6-2, 6-3 to avenge her loss to Alexis Wrye in the Section VII individual championships on Saturday.
Alicia Jones, Kim's sister, turned back Amanda Rabideau, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 while Annie Sarmaroy won over Jen Bechard, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3. Alicia Jones also won last year while Sarmaroy's match was halted by rain in the third set.
Elle Rathbun and Emily Higgins won again at No. 1 doubles, this year beating the Langr sisters, Caitlin and Meagan, 6-2, 6-4.
Northeastern Clinton's Emily O'Hara and Desirae Loya, who lost to Rathbun and Higgins last year, won at No. 2 doubles, beating Erinn Hubbell and Caitlin Pabst, 7-5, 6-4.
Plattsburgh High defeated NCCS 3-2 in their CVAC match.
