ELLENBURG -- Kristen Brunell was solid in the pitching circle and strong at the plate Thursday, leading Northern Adirondack to an 8-5 win over Seton Catholic in the Section VII Class C softball playoffs.

Brunell struck out eight to earn the win and drove in four runs.

The Bobcats take on top seed Ticonderoga for the sectional title on Tuesday.

Kayla Rabideau had two hits and two RBI for the second-seeded Bobcats, and Hilary Boyea singled twice.

Seton Catholic took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and Brunell tied it with a two-run dinger in the third.

Rabideau, Jenna Brunell and Heather Byron all hit RBI singles in the sixth, and Kristen Brunell doubled to bring in two more runs.

"That kind of broke the game open," Northern Adirondack coach Dennis LaBarge said. "We got a little sloppy in the top of the seventh. They scored three runs and had the bases loaded."

But a line drive ended the game.
