PLATTSBURGH -- The Tupper Lake Lumberjacks traveled to Plattsburgh expecting a win against Seton Catholic Friday night.

The Lumberjacks got what they came for, but not without a struggle against the undermanned Knights as Tupper Lake recorded a 34-6 win in Northern Athletic Conference football.

"Seton started out good, and we started out shaky," said Lumberjack Head Coach Dennis Klossner. "I thought we got it going after a while, but it took some time."

Tupper took an early lead when Klossner noticed the Seton defense was pinching in, leaving the Lumberjacks tight end Evan Dechene uncovered. The coach called a pass play, and Lumberjack quarterback Zack Meade hit Dechene for a 48-yard score on the fourth play of the game.

Then, after a Seton fumble on the ensuing drive, the Lumberjacks scored quickly again on a Ian Smetanick nine-yard run. The drive was fueled by another Meade to Dechene strike of 24 yards.

But then the Knights rebounded with a nice drive midway through the first, cutting the lead with a 39-yard quarterback keeper from Caleb Golke.

Tupper hit paydirt again midway through the second when Meade scored on a four-yard plunge up the middle.

The Lumberjacks ended any question on the last play of the half when Smetanick ran it in on a 30-yard end around.
