ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — JD Haaf’s overtime goal in the 97th minute lifted Elizabethtown College to a 2-1 win over Plattsburgh State in non-conference men’s soccer Saturday.
Haaf gained possession of a bouncing ball, slipped behind the defense and beat Cardinals (0-2) goalkeeper Ryan Wilson with a shot toward the left side of the net.
Wilson dove to his right and got his right hand on the ball, but it deflected into the side netting.
Plattsburgh was outshot by a 3-1 margin in overtime.
The Cardinals tied the game at 1-all shortly before halftime, when freshman Devin Lambe cashed in on Alex Alejo’s cross in front.
The Blue Jays opened scoring less than three minutes earlier on Tate Mohny’s marker.
Elizabethtown held a 14-10 advantage in shots, and Wilson finished with three saves.
Plattsburgh will host Hobart in the annual Cardinal Classic at 2 p.m. Friday.
William Paterson and Mount Saint Mary will meet in the nightcap at 4 p.m.
The consolation and championship games are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, respectively.
