Expos, Miners split; Neale picks up 73rd career win

LYON MOUNTAIN — Meron’s Expos and the Lyon Mountain Miners split a pair of games on opening day of the Champlain Valley Baseball League Sunday.

The Expos won the first game of the doubleheader, 14-3.

Billy Davis earned the pitching win, allowing just three hits and three runs, while striking out eight.

Dalton Demarco powered the Expos with four hits and four RBIs, while Ryan Criss hit a double for the Miners.

Game two ended in dramatic fashion with Kris Chase hitting a walk-off single that plated two runs to give the Miners a 12-11 win over the Expos.

Brett Juntunen led the way for the winners, finishing 5-for-5 with a triple.

Robby Knowles had three hits for the Expos.

PLATTSBURGH — CJ Worley smacked a double, and Josh Chapman finished with two hits to lead the 4th Ward Cardinals over the Champlain Rockies in game one.

Eric Rock earned the pitching win, and the Rockies were held scoreless after the fourth inning.

The Cardinals’ game two victory was highlighted by Tom Neale picking up his 73rd career win to tie Scott Baker for second-most wins. Neale is three wins away from the all-time record.

Steve Peryea (3) and Tom Bowe (2) combined for five hits for the Cardinals.

Kevin Sousa received the loss for the Rockies.

PLATTSBURGH — The 4th Ward A’s Ryan Mascarenes earned the pitching win for game one.

Conner Myers, Luke Carpenter and Tanner Rascoe all recorded a double for the Athletics.

The Athletics received another strong pitching performance in game two, as Andrew Kramer earned the win and struck out seven.

Zach Bingle led the Athletics with three RBIs.

SARANAC — The Padres and Cubs managed to split.

The Padres were able to bring home game one off a sacrifice fly from Reilly Lawless in the sixth inning that broke a 6-all tie.

Shane Perrotte rocked a triple for the Padres, while Travis Rasco registered two hits for the Cubs.

For game two, The Cubs’ Rasco went the distance and did not allow a walk. The Padres’ sole run in the fifth was unearned.

Austin Medeiros racked up four hits for Saranac, while Jeff Norton recorded two hits for the Padres.
