PLATTSBURGH — Wayne Frederick of AuSable Forks and Willsboro’s Michael Barber held on to win their divisions while Burlington’s Ben Boulieu waited until Sunday morning to land the top catch in the walleye division of the 28th-Annual Plattsburgh Rotary International Fishing Classic.

Frederick, who hauled in a 16-pound, 6.5-ounce laker on Saturday, easily won that division while Barber, who brought in a 9-pound, 11.5-ounce salmon, also on Saturday, took top honors. Boulieu, with a 9-pound, 12.5-ounce catch Sunday, out-fished the Boutah father-son team, also of Burlington, Vt., who had held first- and second-place during the first two days of the classic.

The Rod Busters & Warden captured team honors with 955 points, just ahead of Rude Attitude, with 954.65. Laverne Trueheart of West Rupert, Vt. won the 3-fish combon competition with a total weight of 20 pounds, 7.1 ounces.

The total payout for the Rotary club’s tournament was $11,045. First place in the individual competition netted each division winner $1,378.33 while the first place team earned $1,387.50.

The number of anglers participating in the tournament this year exceeded 420 from eight states (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and South Carolina) and the Province of Ontario.

The Rotary Club distributes proceeds from the fishing tournament among many of the club’s beneficiaries. Half of the annual tournament revenue and 25 percent of the team category revenue are returned to the community through academic scholarships for SUNY Plattsburgh, Clinton Community College and CVPH Medical Center Radiology School; monies to assist the Beartown Ski Area, Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, Plattsburgh Little League, YMCA, Literacy Volunteers, North Country Mission of Hope, and other worthy causes.
