Cold shooting night dooms Cardinals against SUNY Poly

UTICA — Plattsburgh State had trouble knocking down shots Thursday and fell to SUNY Poly, 71-54, in a non-conference men's basketball game.

Caleb Canty powered the Wildcats (2-1) with a game-high 26 points, and Josh Gregory notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.

The Cardinals (2-2) shot just 2-of-17 from behind the 3-point arc and just 30.2 percent from the field.

Erik Salo was Plattsburgh's leading scorer, recording 17 points, while Travis Cox (12) and Cameron Ness (10) combined for 22 points.

Salo and Nick DeAngelis both had eight boards, but DeAngelis had one of the roughest shooting nights, going 0-for-15 from the field and scoring all six of his points with makes at the charity stripe.

The Cardinals trailed, 40-26, at half, and the closest they came to tying the game was with 12:35 left in the second half when Ness made a jumper in the paint to cut his team's deficit to 46-39.

Plattsburgh returns to action Monday when it travels to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore College at 7 p.m.
