Matt Terry's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning Sunday lifted the hosts to a dramatic 9-8 win over Norwood-Norfolk in the championship game of the Saranac Invitational Baseball Tournament.

Terry, who drove in four runs, and Matt Drollette, who picked up the pitching win in relief, led the Chiefs (2-0) with two hits each. Dylan Everleth, Brady Burleigh and Andrew Petro added RBI singles for Saranac.

Seth Clark rapped out three hits and Matt Bresett two for the visitors.

"I'm happy with the way our defense played this early in the year," said Saranac coach Frank Trudeau. "Our pitching also did a good job.

"For two days in the tournament, we used multiple pitchers each game and everyone did a real good job getting around the plate. I'm happy with the pitcher's control.

"It was nice to get some clutch hits. We got a lot of our runs with two outs."

Norwood-Norfolk had taken an 8-7 lead with three runs in the top of the sixth.

In the skills competition that was part of the tournament, Norwood-Norfolk's Bresett won the Golden Arm competition, Saranac's Zack Vaughan the Roadrunner competition for the fastest player around the bases, and Saranac the Around-the-Horn competition.

The Eagles bounced back from a one-sided loss to Norwood-Norfolk the day before to improve their overall record to 2-1.

"It was nice to get a win after the game we had yesterday," said Chazy coach Brian Norcross.

Salmon River held a 12-9 lead when the Eagles forced extra innings with three in the top of the seventh. Chazy took a 16-12 advantage with four in the eighth.

The Shamrocks, however, made it interesting in the bottom of the eighth when they tallied three times to pull to within a run and had the tying run on second base.

But, reliever Ricky Osier fanned the final batter to end it.

Kaleb Snide led Chazy with four hits, including a double and triple. Marc Oshier and Osier added three hits each, while Nathan Reynolds and John Tregan chipped in with two hits apiece.

Michael Santor started for the Eagles and got the win, pitching seven full innings.
