FOX CHAPEL, Pa. -- Getting shots on goal wasn't the problem for the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team Sunday afternoon.

Putting the puck in the back of the net, however, was a problem.

The Cardinals outshot winless Chatham by a commanding 66-10 margin in a 3-0 victory in ECAC West play.

Chatham goaltender Sam Hunt kept the final score from being one-sided by making 63 saves on 66 shots.

"They played us really hard around their goalie and didn't give up a lot of great second chances on rebounds," said Plattsburgh State head coach Kevin Houle. "To their credit, they worked hard defensively and their goalie played extremely well."

Plattsburgh State improved to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play while Chatham dropped to 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the ECAC West.

All the game's scoring was done in the second period, with two of the goals coming on the powerplay.

Kayla McDougall gave the Cardinals the lead for good with her first goal of the season at 6:11.

Claire O'Connor and Laurie Bowler than added power-play markers at 15:04 and 16:11, respectively, to open it up for Plattsburgh State.

"They weren't going to score more than one goal," Houle said. "Once we got a couple of goals, there wasn't a real worry.

"But, we weren't scoring until the second and we were getting a little tight. Finally, we were able to come through and get the lead."

"It was nice to get the game behind us."

Freshman Amanda Hoy, making her first-career start in net for the Cardinals, turned aside all 10 shots she faced to record the shutout.

It also marked the first time in school history freshmen have recorded back-to-back shutouts in net. Mandy Mackrell stopped nine shots in Saturday's 8-0 blanking of Chatham.

The Cardinals, in their two wins over the weekend, took 118 shots on goal.

Plattsburgh State rested some of its key players over the weekend.

"We have some people banged up," he said. "We had three or four regulars out of the line-up -- some of our top players -- and we'll see how they are this coming weekend."

The Cardinals return home for two non-conference contests this weekend -- Friday against Amherst and Saturday versus Connecticut College, both at 7 p.m.

"Amherst is a good as anyone and Connecticut College is pretty darn good as well," Houle said.
