Plattsburgh State-s Stephanie Zweig has been named SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year in softball

Plattsburgh State will make a return trip to Cortland, this time for NCAA Division III regional play.

The Cardinals (31-12) received the region's fourth seed and will meet No. 5 seed Keuka (24-4) on Thursday morning.

Cortland, the No. 2 seed, will host the seven-team regional four days after winning the SUNYAC Tournament on its home field. The regional is double-elimination, and the winner will earn a spot in the Division III Softball Championship in Salem, Va. The NCAA playoffs include 59 teams competing at eight regional sites.

The winner of the Plattsburgh State-Keuka game will meet No. 1 seed Rochester on Thursday afternoon, while the loser will play Friday.

The Cardinals received an at-large bid. This is the program's second appearance in the NCAA playoffs. Plattsburgh State reached the regional final last season before falling to Ithaca.

ZWEIG NAMED BEST PITCHER

Plattsburgh State junior Stephanie Zweig was named the SUNY Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season. The West Nyack native was one of four Cardinals on the All-Conference squad that was announced Monday.

Zweig is 14-6 with three saves. She finished the regular season with a 1.43 ERA, which was best among SUNYAC pitchers with more than 10 starts.

Shortstop Kirby Davids also made the All-Conference team for a second time. The junior had a .387 average at the end of the regular season with 36 hits.

Second baseman Amy Woo and outfielder Jenn Nescio were also honored. Nescio, a junior in her first season with the Cardinals, led the team with a .477 batting average and 52 hits. Woo, a freshman, is Plattsburgh State's leadoff hitter and had a team-high 27 RBI in the regular season.

Cortland placed six players on the All-Conference team, including Player of the Year Jamie Neuner and Rookie of the Year Katie Finch. Julie Lenhart was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Red Dragons to a 20-0 conference record.
