MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- After losing its fourth one-run game in a row in the opener, the Brockway Mechanical Senior Babe Ruth team took any suspense out of Game 2 with a 22-3, five-inning win over the Middlebury Senior Babe Ruth team Sunday to gain a doubleheader split.

Middlebury outlasted Brockway Mechanical, 9-8, in eight innings in the first game.

In the opener, Brockway Mechanical rallied to tie the game late before Middlebury pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to win it.

Richard Chase went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs for Brockway Mechanical, while Cody Wood was 2-for-3, with two RBI. Kyle Rascoe also had two hits and drove in a run.

Wood pitched the first five innings, and Josh Chapman went the final three in taking the loss, despite allowing just the run in the eighth.

In Game 2, Brockway Mechanical (4-7) rapped 16 hits over the first two innings, and Chase went the five innings to pick up his first pitching win with Brockway.

Wood swung the big bat in the nightcap with two triples and five RBI. Chapman went 3-for-3, including three RBI, and Chase added a double and triple.

Steve Mills contributed a double and three RBI, while Mark Eggleston reached base every time up and scored four runs.

Brockway Mechanical returns to the diamond on Tuesday when it plays the Malone Legion in Lyon Mountain at 6 p.m.
