SOUTH PLATTSBURGH -- Faced with a rainy Saturday for the second week in a row, Airborne Speedway rescheduled its Budweiser/Banker Orchard Dick Nephew Memorial race card to today at 5 p.m.

The J&S Steel Sportsman headline today's competition in the Budweiser 50. The Sportsman division has been very competitive throughout the 2008 season. The last nine events, including a 100-lap special won by Shawn Duquette, have produced nine different winners.

Mike Bruno will try to keep Saranac Lake's Patrick Dupree and last week's Ernie's Tools Modified winner, Martin Roy of Napierville, Quebec, at bay in the 30-lap Modified feature. Bruno leads Dupree 417-414 in the championship point standings. Roy (385) is ranked third.

The Versatile Trailer Sales Renegades, NAPA Auto Parts Warriors and Monster Energy Drink Bombers will also be in action. Also on tap, one-lap spectator race elimination drags.

Gates open today at 3 p.m. Post time is 5 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, $3/kids 6-12, $25/family (two adults, two kids).

Santos heading to

Airborne Wednesday

PLATTSBURGH -- Open wheel racer Bobby Santos III, 22, from Franklin, Ma, who will compete in the $3,000-to-win Akwesasne Casino Big Block/Small Block Shootout II at Airborne on Wednesday, Aug. 6, recently completed a successful week by winning a Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA) event at Monadnock Speedway in New Hampshire.

Two days earlier, Santos drove a Toyota USAC National Midget entry fielded by Western Speed Enterprises to an impressive third-place finish in the second round of the three-race $25,000 Toyota Challenge at O'Reilly Indianapolis Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind.

The strong showing by several Toyota entries during the qualifying time trials and heat races came amid a star-studded field of 46 USAC National midgets. Just 24 cars made their way into the feature event.

Santos will join World of Outlaws Late Model champion Tim McCreadie of Watertown, Devil's Bowl standout Todd Stone of Middlebury, Vt., multi-time New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway champion Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, Pa. and other invaders against Airborne's Small Block Ernies Tools Modified regulars in the 75-lap Shootout.

Prior to the Shootout, Santos will attempt to turn the fastest lap in Airborne history in his 1900 lb. -- 900 HP Supermodified machine, which he will debut in the Ollie Silva Supermodified Memorial at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H. Aug. 15.

The Keeseville NAPA Auto Parts Warriors and the Monster Energy Bombers will contest 25-lap events as part of the Akwesasne Casino race card Aug. 6.
