SCHROON LAKE — Lynn Veverka celebrated Senior Night with a two-out, two-strike, game-winning single Friday as Schroon Lake rallied to beat Chazy 9-8 in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference softball.

The Wildcats (4-6, 3-6) scored three times after Chazy (2-7, 2-7) pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-6 lead.

Jocelyn Bowen and Abby Veverka led off the Schroon seventh with doubles and Brianna DeZalia followed with a single. Two outs later, Liz Bessey singled in the tieing run and Lynn Veverka came through with her last-strike base hit to score the winning run.

Chazy had gone ahead with consecutive singles from Victoria Reynolds, Kirsten Doran and Astrid Kempainen. Kempainen's line shot hit Schroon pitcher Ashley Subra in the mid-section and she was forced to leave the game. The injury unnerved the Wildcats, who gave up two runs on passed balls.

Lynn Veverka and Brianna DeZalia each had three hits for Schroon Lake while Doran and Astrid Kempainen had three each for Chazy.
