Behind Ryan Marks’ No. 1 singles win, the Northeastern Clinton boys’ tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Plattsburgh High in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match play Monday.

Marks defeated Alex Racine, 7-5 and 6-1, while Troy Tetreault earned a win in No. 3 singles. Tetreault upended Brendan Whalen, 6-2 and 7-5.

Adam Khater, Brendan Boutin, Devin McManus and Austin Tetreault helped the Cougars sweep doubles.

Anthony Girard picked up the Hornets’ lone win, a 6-3 and 6-1 win over Anthony Piche in No. 3 singles.

Plattsburgh High, though, evened the score when the girls’ collected a 4-1 win.

Kelsey Senecal, Emilie Kneifel, Anna Outekhine, Ashley Marlow and Kelly Cantwell each earned match wins for the Hornets.

“We were very patient against a consistent Northeastern Clinton team,” Plattsburgh High coach Chris Hartmann said. “The match of the day was in No. 1 doubles. Ashley and Kelly were down 3-5 and were able to climb back and win. They showed great determination and mental toughness.”

Anna Stitt, Mariya Kalarash and Tegan Belrose swept singles, while Chelsey Tallada and Alex Putnam claimed No. 2 doubles.

Alyse Clark and Olivia Nachbauer took No. 1 singles for the Knights, defeating Tori and Sierra Barrett, 6-7, 7-6 and 6-2.

SARANAC — In boys’ play, the Indians wasted no time, earning a five-match sweep to blank the Chiefs.

Johnny McAuliffe, Peter Daly, Conner Bond, Patrick Demarais, Chase Boryer, Matthew Rine and Alex Rine each earned match wins.

Brin Mousseau and Shania Howard’s victory in No. 2 doubles helped Peru edge Saranac in girls’ play, 3-2.

Mousseau and Howard defeated Olivia Klooster and Kirstin Smith, 6-2 and 6-0.

Margaret Mitchell (No. 1 singles) and Taylor Higgins and Anna Mitchell (No. 1 doubles) also earned match wins for the Indians.

“Tough match between the No. 2 doubles teams,” AuSable Valley coach Jay Hamilton said. “They fought hard. We’re a young team that is winning games with sophomores, so they will get better with experience.”
