Plattsburgh High goaltender Brandon Bechard comes up with a last-second save against Beekmantown in high-school hockey action last spring.

Brandon Bechard, a 16-year-old hockey goalie from Plattsburgh, will begin his third USA Hockey Select camp today at Monroe Community College in Rochester.

Bechard was one of two goaltenders from New York State selected to participate in the Select 17 camp.

He also made the U14 and U15 camp in consecutive years, but had to sit out from tryouts for the 15s because of a knee operation.

He qualified for the camp after an invitational tryout in Syracuse.

The camp consists of a series of round-robin play within two pools of four teams over three days. Bechard will wear No. 30 for the "Royal" colored team.

At the end of the tournament, an all-star game will ensue, and a national team will be selected to compete in Europe in August.

The Former Plattsburgh Hornet, who will play for the Albany CD Selects this coming season, was also invited to attend a tryout for the USHL's Omaha Lancers next year.

The Selects tournament can be followed at USAHockey.com.
