10 YEARS AGO (2009) 

Shawn Duquette of Morrisonville captures the checkered flag in the Tiger Sportsmen Tri-State Series at Canaan, N.H. , making it two wins in the first two events. Duquette won the first race of the Series at Airborne Speedway.

Lindsey Keysor collects a goal and 2 assists to lead Lady Giroux's to a 4-2 victory over the Elizabethtown Flames in the North Country Women's Soccer League championship match. Brigid Daul and Emily Riley also score with Helen Giroux picking up 2 assists. Mallory Morris accounts for both E'town goals with Kelsey Gibson getting 2 assists.

Sean Cotter leaves Plattsburgh State to become the women's softball coach at Massachusetts-Lowell. Cotter compiles a 254-172 record in 9 seasons with the Cardinals.

Aaron Robertson (16:28) and Alexis Haley (20:24) are the top finishers in a field of 75 in the Heart Smart 5K Fun Run.

Jon Parks and Erin Rasco lead the way in the 24th Platttsburgh YMCA Y-Tri.

Ken Stay throws for 3 touchdowns as the 4-0 Plattsburgh North Stars thump host Massena 40-0. Zach Blocker picks up 137 return yards while Brandon Keleher rushes for 101 yards on 12 carries. Matt St. Clair, Kelly Gordon and Chris Fish haul in TD passes.

 

20 YEARS AGO (1999)

Doug Beebe, the regular-season and playoff MVP, scores 26 points as Peabody's bounces World Warehouse 89-65 to wrap up the summer basketball league playoffs.

14-year-old Josh McDougal of Peru wins 2 golds and sets a national record (9:15:12 for 3,000 meters) for his age at the National AAU Junior Olympics.

Joe Porcelli and Katie Roden are the top finishers in the annual Plattsburgh YMCA Y-Tri.

Ticonderoga's Walt Thorne claims 4 golds and one silver in the World Police and Fire Games in Stockholm, Sweden.

25 YEARS AGO (1994)

Jim Dowdle (shooting), Meghan Welch (swimming), Trent Curry (wrestling), Dustin Grant (kayak), Kevin Duniho (cycling), Missy West (basketball), Jason Cummings (hockey) earn medals at the Empire State Games.

Jacsue Brooks, owned by Jack Connell of Keeseville and named for Brooks Latremore, becomes the first pacer to break two minutes at the Clinton County Fair, getting the mile in 1:58.4 for Henry Westbrook III.

Cindy Lauzon and Derek Martisus win the annual Bud Run.

Bill North pitches a no-hitter for Lyon Mountain in a victory over Hogansburg in Northern Valley League baseball. Kirk LaPage and Jerry Kowalowski each have two hits.

30 YEARS AGO (1989)

Mary Ellen Locke, Laurie Moquin-Schultz and Laura Grover of the Tri-Lakes finish 1-2-3 in the Open Women's 10-mile cycling trial at the Empire States Games and then return to win the 50K team event.

Peggy DiOrio and Penny Castine each get 3 hits as Cindy's Grocery topples 4-time champion Fox Hill Maple with an 8-3 win and a sweep of their Little Towns Women's Softball League final series.

Mark Boule, Jim Ryan, Jeff Garrant, Chris Pageau and Greg Boulrice get singles and Joey Peryea a sacrifice fly as Post 20 rallies with 3 runs in the 6th to beat Saugerties 5-4, sending Plattsburgh on to the state Legion Final Four for the first time in 20 years.

Brent Banker captures the 13th Bud Run while Joyce Black wins for the fifth time.

Bob Heins and Vaughan Brown win singles championships in the Press-Republican North Country Tennis Tournament.

 

Bill Branham closes in on the Late Model title with a victory in the 50-lap Bob Mackey Memorial at Plattsburgh International Raceway.

Ricky Sears strikes out 16 in Beekmantown's 4-0 win over Morrisonville in Grasshopper baseball.

Tommy Hackett winds up the top hitter in the CVBL with a .492 average. Alex Benware leads in RBI with 20 while Harry Duprey and Burlington's Bill Currier share the home-run lead with 4. Stafford Branch has the top ERA (1.91) and Dale Murphy leads in Murphy leads in strikeouts (110).

50 YEARS AGO (1969)

Bret Kinnon, Kim Patnode, Joey Fritz, Ruth Chilton, Barbara Beatty, Debbie LaBarre, Carol McKee, Joanne Lester, Monica Sanders, Frank Bowl and Alan McKee lead Ellenburg to the team title in the Clinton County Swimkhana.

Mike St. Louis tosses a no-hitter and Dale McNally knocks in 3 runs as Plattsburgh Post 20 defeats Hudson 5-1 to reach the section semifinals of the state American Legion tournament.

John Highland gets a double and a single and Fred Namer picks up the win as the Ticonderoga Firemen edge the K of C 4-3 to win the Ti Little League championship. Losing pitcher John Cooper has 2 hits.

Cindy Palmer, Wendy Karnow and Bonnie Bridge help the Westport peewees to a 7-3 season in Essex County Youth baseball.

60 YEARS AGO (1959)

Mike Dandrow gets 3 hits and Mike Blow and Jack Brown 2 each as Ubl & Adams repeats as Plattsburgh Little League champ with a 15-13 win over Nitzi's. Billy McNeil hits 2 homers for Nitzi's.

Charlie Andrews leads off the 8th with a triple and scores on Nubby O'Connell's single to give the Foxes a 3-2 win over the Mounties in Senior League baseball.

Pete Varmette hurls a 1-hitter in Ticonderoga's 2-1 win over Ginsberg's in Game 1 of their Section 11 Little League playoff series. Tommy Adams gets the hit for Ginsberg's.

70 YEARS AGO (1949)

C.J. McCarrell of Peru takes first in the 22- and 33-horsepower classes and the free-for-all for outboards in a Regatta on Chateaugay Lake. Elmer Ives, Don Douglas, Wesley LaPorte, Guy Beaubriand and James Allen also fare well.

Cliff Corron is 4-for-6 and Duane Covey hits a 2-run homer as Beekmantown rips Mooers 15-2.

Bob Bouyea raps 2 homers to lift the Plattsburgh Mechants to an 11-10 win over AuSable Forks in Adirondack League play.

Ernest Longto loses to Julian Frankel of Michigan 4-2 in the finals of the Rouses Point Golf Club Invitational.

Sidney Mitchell of Plattsburgh lands a 10-pound, 14-ounce brown trout on a bucktail lure while fishing the Chazy River near Altona.
