SARANAC LAKE — After starting the season off with four straight losses, the North Country Community College softball team has found its stride.

Winners of back-to-back games against Clinton on Thursday, the Saints continued their winning ways on Friday by defeating SUNY Adirondack 6-2 and 12-8 at home.

“We’ve won four in a row, and it’s been a long time since we’ve done that,” North Country coach Kent Egglefield said. “It was good to play at our home field this early in the season … We haven’t been outside to practice much, but the girls responded well.”

In the first game, the Saints (4-4) opened the game by scoring one run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 advantage.

With freshman Serina Hayes on point in the circle, North Country methodically added five more runs over the next four innings to go into the sixth with a 6-0 lead.

Although Hayes surrendered one run to the Timberwolves in each of the final two frames, the Saints were able to walk away with the victory.

Morgan Fountain, Brittany Tschirhart, Abby Barnes and Chelsea LaFountain each tallied doubles for North Country, while Samantha Hubinsky had a solo home run for Adirondack.

Hubinsky also took the loss in the circle for the Timberwolves, while Hayes got the win for North Country.

In Game 2, both teams got things started early as they combined for nine runs in the first inning.

The Saints held a 6-3 advantage going into the top of the second before adding two more runs to take a five-run lead.

Unable to score in the bottom of the second, the Timberwolves did their best to generate a comeback, adding four more runs in the third to cut North Country’s lead to 8-7.

Both squads added runs in the fourth before the Saints seemingly pulled away by adding two more in the sixth to claim a 12-8 advantage.

With the lead in hand, Hayes continued her dominance in the circle as she shut down Adirondack in the final two innings to gain her second win of the day.

Hayes, Chelsea LaFountain and Abby Barnes each had doubles for North Country, while Hubinsky and Madison Paquin each had home runs for the Timberwolves.

Myah Ondreko took the loss in the circle.
