SARANAC LAKE — The North Country Community College men's basketball team dropped another close one Sunday afternoon in a 92-87 setback to Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
The Saints (0-3) held a 43-39 lead at the half and maintained the advantage for much of the second stanza.
"We were up by as many as 12 points in the first half," North Country C.C. coach Chad LaDue said. "We were up by seven when they hit a three at the buzzer to end the first half.
"We then led most of the second half before they tied it and took the lead on a 3-point play. We missed some chippies and it turned into a foul game at the end."
Once again, mistakes hurt the Saints.
"We had too many turnovers again," LaDue said. "We also missed 14 free throws, including the front end of a 1-and-1 five times. That was frustrating.
"We had a chance for a bigger lead in the first half and also at the end."
Mateusz Janisewski and Gene Bouyer combined to score over half of the Saints' points. Janisewski finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Bouyer added 22 points and four assists.
Also hitting in double figures for North Country C.C. was Steve Carder with 12 points.
The Saints will be back on the court on Thursday night when they host Hudson Valley Community College.
