Kristie Pageau's goal made it a good weekend on the road for the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team.
Pageau scored the lone goal of the game Saturday in the Cardinals' win over New Paltz in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.
The Cardinals, who played a good game in a 3-2 loss at Oneonta the day before, improved to 9-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the conference.
"We played better yesterday, but we had our moments today and did enough to win," said Plattsburgh State head coach Karen Waterbury.
"Overall, it was a good weekend for us. But, it could have been a great one."
The Cardinals held a 10-2 advantage in shots in a scoreless first half.
"We were carrying play even though it was still kind of lackluster," said Waterbury. "Our best scoring chance came when Lindsey (Keyser) took a shot and Pageau had a shot at the rebound."
The Cardinals, however, would break through at the 65:33 mark in the second half.
"New Paltz stepped up their play a little," said Waterbury.
"But, Emily (Riley) kept the ball on the outside of the field before crossing it to Kristie. Kristie was the first to the ball and tapped it in. It was a nice finish.
"It's not an easy place to play and we'll take the win even though it was an ugly one."
Plattsburgh State finished with a 15-10 edge in shots and Alina Greiser was in net for the shutout with one save. Stephanie Vega made four stops for the Hawks (6-7-1, 4-3).
"Emily Riley and Emily LaLone once again played their hearts out and you could see it in their legs today after the overtime game the day before," said Waterbury.
"We needed the three points in the standings after playing well yesterday and coming away with a goose egg. There were a lot of momentum shifts yesterday."
The Cardinals have five regular season games remaining — three in the conference and two non-league. All five are at home beginning with this coming weekend's SUNYAC games against Buffalo State at 4 p.m. on Friday and versus Fredonia at 1 p.m. Saturday.
"We're going to give the girls a couple of days off — they need it," said Waterbury. "We're not going to think about this coming weekend just yet."
