PLATTSBURGH — A three-run sixth inning carried Plattsburgh to a 4-1 win over Puerto Rico Tuesday in Empire Pro Baseball League action at Chip Cummings Field.
Dimitri Nunez gave the Thunderbirds eight innings of one-run ball and gave up just five hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts.
In Plattsburgh's big sixth inning, Nick McHugh and Johann Paniagua recorded RBI singles, and McHugh came around to score on a wild pitch.
Alexander Martinez provided the Islanders with their lone run after his RBI double drove in Juan Avila in the second frame.
McHugh notched an RBI double in the bottom of the second to even the score at 1-all.
McHugh's two hits and two RBIs led the Thunderbirds' lineup, while five other Plattsburgh batters had one base knock.
Mohammed Hussein closed the door in the ninth to record the save for the Thunderbirds.
Plattsburgh plays Puerto Rico at 4 p.m. today at Chip Cummings Field.
