Mariners squander three-run lead in 6-3 loss

SARATOGA — The Clinton County Mariners suffered a 6-3 loss to Saugerties Post at the Cooper’s Cave Tournament Thursday.

The Mariners held a 3-0 lead entering the bottom half of the fifth inning, but Saugerties scored three times in both the fifth and sixth frames to take the lead for good.

“It was a good game to watch,” Clinton County coach Gary Duquette said. “Saugerties’ hitters were probably the best we’ve seen so far this year. Hats off to them, for sure.

“Kaden Myers did a heck of a job keeping us in the game. He just ran out of gas in the end. We’ve got to come back (today) and play another good game against a Shrub Oak team that beat us last week in Binghamton.

“I like our chances. Last time we played them, we (had) a really bad game on the defensive end. I don’t anticipate that happening with the way we have been playing lately.”
