BINGHAMTON — The Clinton County Mariners topped the Oneonta Green Wave, 8-1, to conclude their stay at the Hall of Fame Classic Saturday in Binghamton.
The Mariners, despite posting a 2-2 record and outscoring their opponents by a 22-14 margin, did not go through to the semifinal round.
Clinton County’s Jesse Izzo rolled up eight strikeouts, and Bailey Marsh and Kaden Myers both hit doubles.
“Another great performance from our starting pitcher,” Mariners coach Gary Duquette said.
“Izzo kept the ball down all game and only threw one walk.
“The defense, again, made all the plays.
“In both our wins, the defense made no errors.”
Clinton County, which sports an 11-9 record through 20 games, will have time off before playing in the Coopers Cave Tournament in Saratoga.
“It was right around this time last year that the team started to click,” Duquette said.
“Hopefully, that trend continues this year.
“The Coopers Cave Tournament starts Thursday, (and) it’s a tournament that we won last year.
“If we continue to play sound baseball, we should fare well.”
