SARATOGA — The Clinton County Sr. Mariners picked up a pair of wins at the Coopers Cave Tournament Friday.
The Mariners defeated Shrub Oak, 6-1, and SD Ireland, 9-5.
Against Shrub Oak, Ryley O'Connell pitched a complete game, striking out seven and giving up no earned runs.
"Ryley O'Connell was awesome (Friday) and seemed to get stronger as the game went on," Clinton County coach Gary Duquette said. "He was throwing harder in the last two innings than he was at the start, and he was hitting his spots all game."
Dominick Bordeau had a single and double to lead the Mariners' offense.
In Clinton County's win over SD Ireland, Bordeau finished with three hits, including a double, while Dyllon Bougor tallied a double and single.
Zach Miner picked up the pitching win, and Jesse Izzo recorded the save.
"Dominick Bordeau continued his hot hitting in our second game, and we needed it," Duquette said.
"Pitchers on both sides had a difficult time keeping people of the base patches. Both teams put pressure on the defenses every inning.
"Couldn’t be happier with our defense though, turning two much-needed double plays. The defense picked up our pitchers numerous times with great plays.
"Izaiah Browne was fantastic at second base, and Dom Bordeau was a wall behind the plate. The wins (Friday) earned our way to the quarterfinal round (today).
"Jesse Izzo will get the start on the mound. Jesse has been great all year, and he has the coaching staff's full confidence."
