PLATTSBURGH €" Richard S. Long, 47, of the Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 21, 1960, the son of Alton and Gloria (Rock) Long.

Richard graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1979. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy serving for four years of active duty and after joined the U.S. Navy Reserves for four years. He then became a correction officer for 24 years working at the Altona Correctional Facility. Richard enjoyed scuba diving, boating and loved animals especially his cat "Buddy".

Survivors include his long-term companion, Sarah Forkey of Plattsburgh; his mother, Gloria Long of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Holly LaRock of Rodman, N.Y., and Carol Long of Frisco, Texas; one niece, Courtney LaRock of Rodman, N.Y.; and several aunts and uncles.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy followed by burial in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Adirondack Humane Society or the charity of choice.۩
