Not all bureaucrats
TO THE EDITOR: I live in Peru and I work in Champlain, which directly contradicts any claims that federal employees are nameless, faceless Washington, D.C. bureaucrats.
When politicians talk about draining the swamp, I ask people to keep two things in mind: federal employees are your middle-class neighbors, and they do the work that taxpayers need and expect them to do. In fact, their work is so interwoven into our daily lives, it’s easy to take for granted.
The National Treasury Employees Union is proud to represent thousands of dedicated civil servants in all 50 states. I am president of NTEU Chapter 138, and our members protect our borders, while facilitating trade and legitimate travel into our great nation every day.
The next time you hear someone attack the federal workforce, please keep in mind that we are nonpartisan civil servants who simply want the resources to be able to do our jobs on behalf of the taxpayers. We deserve support.
We also deserve an operating budget and the ability to enjoy the holidays this year. Currently we are approaching the deadline for a spending plan and are facing another possible shutdown during the holiday season once again. Many of our members are just now getting back on their feet and in a decent financial situation following the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
Due to the inaction of our elected leaders in Washington, we may yet again need to bear the brunt of their inability to govern and again do without the things required to sustain our families during a time of year that we should be celebrating our hard work and the love for our families and communities. It is time for our representatives in D.C. to get back to work.
Name the politician
TO THE EDITOR: Who is this man?
Someone who does not want us to see his tax returns, someone who hides his college grades, someone who has bankrupted three casinos, lost over $1 billion in 10 years, is a sexual predator who pays for sex, claims to be a patriot, but lied to dodge service in the military, claims to be a Christian, but never goes to church.
Who defrauds charity, who lies every time he opens his mouth, who refuses to testify for fear of perjuring himself, who is trying to prevent witnesses from testifying against him, who has increased the national debt by $3 trillion, who has criticized our friends and praised our enemies, who has placed incompetents in high places in government, who is a racist, a white supremacist, who is interested in only one thing, money for himself, is arrogant, ignorant, is trying to rescind as many environmental laws that he can, has cut off desperately needed medical treatment for his nephew as revenge against his brother, and stiffed workers and contractors on building projects.
These are only a few of the deeds of this man. It is sad that many good Americans were hoodwinked by this slick used car salesman. Let us pray that they are not fooled again.
Do you know who this man is?
