ALBANY — The State Senate has approved legislation authorizing Essex County to continue its current sales-tax rate of 4 percent.
Sen. Betty Little (R-Queensbury) sponsored the bill at the request of the Essex County Board of Supervisors, which late last year approved a resolution with unanimous support requesting the legislation.
Essex County’s 4 percent sales and compensating-use tax comprises a 3 percent rate plus an additional 1 percent that is set to expire at the end of November this year. The legislation authorizes the county to continue the additional 1 percent through Nov. 30, 2019.
The bill was sent on to the Assembly.
