PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh City Police are investigating a suspicious fire that broke out behind a doctor's office early Wednesday morning.

Plattsburgh City Fire Chief Paul Williams said firefighters responded to the 5 a.m. blaze at 60 Court St. to find smoke and flames billowing within feet of a building that houses a doctor's office and upstairs apartment.

With a quick response, firefighters were able to douse the blaze before it spread to the building, though some of the structure's siding was scorched by the heat.

City Police were continuing to investigate the fire Wednesday afternoon.

The fire appeared to have originated from a trash pile.
