ALTONA — A local man is behind bars for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, damaging her property and then driving without a license.

Plattsburgh-based State Police said Lance Rabideau was arrested Tuesday morning on a felony charge of assault with the intent to cause serious injury and misdemeanor count of third-degree assault.

The 21-year-old Ellenburg Depot man is also facing two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle and two counts of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, all misdemeanors.

Officials said his arrest stemmed from a violent domestic incident that happened a day earlier when Rabideau allegedly assaulted the woman, damaged a DVD player and decorative plate and then took a car without the owner's permission.

Rabideau was arraigned after his arrest and later sent to the Clinton County Jail, unable to post bail or bond.

He will reappear in court at a later date to face the charges.
