PLATTSBURGH -- A Plattsburgh man is behind bars for allegedly ramming his truck into his stepfather.

State Police said Jonathon Shappy pulled out of a Pleasant Ridge Road driveway around 6 p.m. Friday and intentionally swerved his truck to hit Larry Macey Sr., 46.

After the 20-year-old allegedly rammed his truck into Macey, he hit a truck being driven by Russell Macey, 47, of Morrisonville, who was stopped to talk to Macey when the alleged assault occurred.

Larry Macey was taken to CVPH Medical Center for evaluation and later released.

Police said Shappy fled the area after the alleged assault, but was located and arrested a short time later.

He was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Shappy was also charged with endangering the welfare of child in connection with a domestic incident that happened prior to the alleged assault.

He was arraigned on the charges in the Town of Plattsburgh Court and taken to the Clinton County Jail, where he remained Saturday afternoon.

Officials said they are continuing to investigate the incident.


SCHROON LAKE -- State Police said a Port Kent woman was injured Friday afternoon when she fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a utility pole.

Officials said Patricia W. Griffing was driving her 2002 Subaru north on Route 9 around 2:30 p.m. when she "nodded off" and crashed into the power pole.

Schroon Lake-based State Police said her car then hit a rock wall and flipped over.

The 71-year-old was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, but suffered a minor head injury and was taken to the Glens Falls Hospital for evaluation.

She was ticketed for moving from the lane unsafely.
