Ticonderoga accident

TICONDEROGA €" A fiery crash on Route 9N near Ticonderoga destroyed a large truck cab Monday afternoon, but the driver of the rig escaped injury in the crash.

Helen Rosenthal of Saratoga was three miles south of the Crown Point town line at about 4:45 p.m. when she crashed into a utility pole, causing live wires to fall onto the 2007 Freight Liner she was driving.

"She was in the cab trying to call 911 when a neighbor came out and advised her to get out of the truck," said Officer Michael Lavallie of the Ticonderoga Police Department. "When she got out, that's when the explosion happened."

As firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the cab fully engulfed in flames and directed their attention toward saving the trailer, which contained a small load of lamented flooring and glue, Lavallie said.

"The fire did start to burn through in front, but the fire department managed to stop it there," Lavallie said.

Rosenthal was uninjured, and no other vehicles were involved. The cause of the accident was still under investigation, Lavallie said.

Numerous fire departments throughout the county responded to the scene, he added. National Grid, Verizon and Time Warner were also at the scene for repairs to their lines. New York State Department of Transportation personnel were called in for traffic control
