PERU — A Peru teen faces a felony charge in connection with a driving-while-intoxicated incident, State Police say.

A call to police reported "an intoxicated male walking down the roadway" on Dashnaw Road at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities said in a press release.

Troopers located Christopher W. Besaw, 19, a short distance from his 2010 Ford Edge, it said.

Police said he told them he had been driving from Keeseville towards Peru but had run out of gas.

Besaw's blood-alcohol content was determined to be 0.17 percent; the legal limit is 0.08.

He was charged with DWI and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony.

The latter charge, said State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Jennifer Fleishman said, was because his license had been suspended and also he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Besaw was also ticketed for unlicensed operation and an unsafe tire. He was released and will appear in Peru Town Court at a later date and time, police said.
