Making waves for charity

Members of the Lake Champlain Waves swim team pose with coaches Jay Ruff (from left), Mia Biondililo and Jon Parks before their recent annual USA Swimming Swim-A-Thon fundraiser at Chazy Central Rural School. Members of the team swam for two hours straight, attempting to complete 200 lengths, to raise money for Lake Champlain Waves and the USA Swimming Foundation. Most swimmers finish in a little over an hour and hit the 200-length mark. While there was no total yet from the recent fundraiser, which saw supporters pledging sums per length, past events have brought in $8,000 to $9,000 at a time. Lake Champlain Waves is a year-round competitive swim team that features swimmers, ages 8 through 17, from schools across the North Country, including Chazy Central Rural School, AuSable Valley, Peru, Saranac, Saranac Lake, Plattsburgh High and Seton Catholic. The team offers high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities.
